FROM THE COLLECTION OF AN ENGLISH GENTLEMAN
These two paintings were owned by Frederick Duncan Foster (1919-2012). He left England in 1948 to work at Patons and Baldwins, a British woollen yarn factory in Shanghai, first as a company secretary and later as the general manager. He loved his new life in China where he made many good friends and enjoyed collecting art as well as fine furniture. In 1954, he decided to return to his homeland and he was allowed to take all his belongings, including these two paintings, back to England.These paintings were hung in his house for continued enjoyment for over 50 years until his death.
