Lot 7 "(...) Ce serait une erreur de croire que Bugatti, en recouvrant de parchemin le bois de ses meubles, ne l'a fait que dans le but de paraître original. Pris du désir de rompre la monotonie de notre mobilier ordinaire, il s'est dit que, puisqu'il changeait la ligne des meubles, il devait pour des raisons d'harmonie en changer aussi l'apparence extérieure (...). Le parchemin (...), substance naturelle et particulièrement résistante, présentait à l'oeil une agréable couleur ; en outre, elle offrait une surface unie, sur laquelle le talent du décorateur pouvait évoluer à son gré.
Au cours de ce travail, Bugatti découvrit le secret du collage des feuilles de parchemin sur bois ainsi qu'aux jointures elles-mêmes. Il composa une colle qui fixait les pièces d'une manière telle que ni l'humidité ni la sécheresse ne les modifiaient (...)"

'(...) It was a mistake to assume that Bugatti, when cladding the surface of his furniture with vellum, was doing so for the purposes of novelty. Inspired to revoke the mediocrity of furniture design he concluded that, in addition to changing the outline of his furnishings, the application of vellum - a natural and durable substance of appealing colour - contributed to the successful uniformity of the design and provided a suitable surface for decor. During the course of his investigations into this medium, Bugatti established an effective and durable process of adhesion, resistant to both moisture and humidity, for the overall application of the vellum sheets to the furnishings (...)'
