LONDON, 1633, MAKER'S MARK RC WITH PHEON BELOW
Cylindrical on spreading foot, the flat hinged cover with spatulate thumbpiece, with scroll handle and prick-engraved with an inscription, marked near handle and on cover
11¼ in. (28.5 cm.) high
45 oz. 2 dwt. (1,403 gr.)
The inscription reads 'John Masters and John Jordaine Churchwardens of Marstocke 1633'.

Specialist note

The inscription presumably refers to the church of All Saints, Martock in Somerset. The will of a John Jordan, yeoman of Martock, was proved on 6 July 1655 (PROB 11/244/717) and the will of John Masters, Yeoman of Martock and John Master, Husbandman of Martock were proved on 4 July 1664 and 28 October 1650 respectively (PROB 11, 314/376 and 214/11). John Jordan of Martock married Mary Pitterd on 5 December 1626.
