Leopold I (1790-1865), King of the Belgians, in the uniform of a colonel in the Belgian Cuirassiers, wearing the red sash and breast-star of the Belgian Order of Leopold, the star of the Order of the Black Eagle, and the badges of the Order of the Golden Fleece, St George, Saxe-Ernest, the Iron Cross, and other orders; red curtain background
on ivory

Specialist note

Leopold I was the youngest son of Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Countess Augusta Reuss-Ebersdorf. He married, in 1816, Princess Charlotte of Wales, daughter of George IV of Great Britain. Princess Charlotte died following the birth of a stillborn child in 1817. Had she survived, she would have become Queen and Leopold Prince Consort.
