Specialist note

Caroline Murat was a daughter of Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Ramolino, Madame Mère (see lot 332). She was therefore a younger sister of Napoleon I. She married, in 1800, one of the generals in Napoleon's army, Joachim Murat.
The present miniature derives from a large-scale portrait by François Pascal Simon, Baron Gérard.
