Specialist note

Charles IV of Spain was the second son of Charles III and his wife Maria Amalia of Saxony. He married, in 1765, his first cousin, daughter of Philip, Duke of Parma and they had fourteen children, six of whom survived infancy.
In July 1801, Bauzil received 11 ounces for two portraits of the King and of the Queen (M. Tomás, La miniatura retrato en España, Madrid, 1953, p. 38).
