CIRCA 1750, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK TO BACK OF BASE
Modelled by J.J. Kändler, seated on a tree-stump, beating a pot with a hammer in his right hand, a tea-kettle and anvil at his feet, in a white hat and shirt, green-lined pink jacket, brown apron and black breeches and shoes, the mound base moulded with rococo scrolls enriched in puce, turquoise, yellow and blue (restoration to rim of pot, handle of tea-kettle, edge of jacket, tip of left shoe and base)

Specialist note

Figures from this series, formerly in the Emma Budge Collection, were sold by Christie's, Rome on 24 May 1972, lots 180-199 (the coppersmith was lot 190) and by Christie's, Geneva on 14 November 1983, lots 254-264 (the coppersmith was lot 262). Similar examples of the coppersmith were sold in these Rooms on 11 October 1976, lot 119 and 6 March 1995, lot 172 and see also the example in the Victoria and Albert Museum (W.B.
