The caparisoned wood elephant decorated in gold, silver, black and red hiramaki-e, nashiji, crushed shell and inlaid in mother-of-pearl and coral in Shibayama style, with an ivory lotus flower on its back surmounted by a glass ball, the caparison elaborately decorated with dragons, the lotus flower lifts to reveal and gilt copper compartment
