The Outlaw
1951 re-release, United Artists, British quad, condition A-; backed on linen
30 x 40in. (76 x 105cm.)

Ex-lot 82, Vintage Film Posters, Christie's South Kensington, 16 September 2004

Specialist note

When first released in San Francisco in 1943, The Outlaw was initally banned within a matter of a week or so. The director, Howard Hughes, had released the film without passing it before the censors, knowing it would not pass muster unedited. The film remained unreleased until 1946.
One of a handful of known copies, this is only the third time this rare British quad has appeared for auction in these rooms.
