A PARIS (DARTE FRERES) PORCELAIN CIRCULAR TEMPLE
CIRCA 1810, IRON-RED STENCILED DARTE/FRERES/A PARIS MARK
Modeled as a hexagonal temple, the finial as a stepped basket of fruit above a dome applied with biscuit swags and pendant garlands, supported by six pairs of marbled columns surmounted by eagles holding baskets of fruit, the interior with a gadrooned urn, on a circular base reserved with palmettes and leaves
16¼ in. (41.2 cm.) high

Anonymous sale; Christie's, New York, 21 May 1997, lot 127.

Specialist note

This temple was created as a dessert table centerpiece, in turn flanked by two others, perhaps of slightly different design, and slightly smaller. See the two sold Christie's, New York, May 21, 1997, lots 125 and 126. A similar example is in the Museo Napoleonico, Rome with variant finial.
