Of campana form, the entwined vine handles with leafy terminals, painted with a still-life of specimen shells and coral above a beaded band, on a socle and square base

Specialist note

The shape of the present vase takes its name from the monumental marble excavated in 1771 from Hadrian's Villa in Rome. It was acquired by the noted English collector Sir William Hamilton, restored, and sold to the Earl of Warwick. It is now in the collection of the Glasgow Museum, Scotland.
