Roman keys attached to rings have been found on various Roman archaeological sites and it is thought that they were used by Roman ladies who were accustomed to carrying their casket-keys in this manner. It is also believed that these may also have been worn by slaves or by confidential servi who had care of the wardrobes and cabinets of their masters. Cf. W. Jones, Finger Ring Lore: Historical Legendary and Anecdotal,London,1898.
