Gustavus Adolphus II was born on 9th December 1594, he was the son of Charles IX and crowned in October 1617. He led his nation during the 30 years war and is regarded as one of the greatest military leaders of his era. His most famous victory was at the battle of Breitenfeld. His contribution to the war was highly regarded and he was referred to as "the father of modern warfare". Gustavus was destined to be made a great leader in Europe but sadly he was killed leading a cavalry charge at the decisive Battle of Lutzen in 1632.
Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg was born on 11th November 1599, she was the daughter of John Sigismund Elector of Brandenberg and Anna Duchess of Prussia. She married Gustavus Aldolpus in 1620 against her mothers will. She had a daughter Christina who later on her father's death became Queen of Sweden in 1632 but abdicated in favour of her cousin in 1654. She died on 28th March 1655.
