A JUVENILE INDIAN ELEPHANT SKELETON

The firm of E. Gerrard & Sons, taxidermists, was founded by Edward Gerrard circa 1870 in Camden, London. Amongst the firms most noted achievements was the mounting of the 92 foot blue whale skeleton in the collection of the Natural History Museum, London and the Mounting of the Greyhound 'Mick the Miller' which was presented to the British Museum circa 1938. The firm did a wide variety of work, regularly undertaking work for museums and educational institutions as well as private individuals and even sometimes for the production of movies; however they specialized in the mounting of large scale articulated skeletons, such as the present example for educational purposes. It is reputed that the present juvenile elephant specimen was working in a British circus as part of the travelling menagerie at the time of its demise.
