A PLASTER-CAST OF AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN RECUMBENT LION

From the 14th century BC red granite original, now in the collection of the British Museum. This example was one of a pair which originally guarded the entrance to the Temple of Soleb in modern day Sudan which were rediscovered in Napata, Ethiopia. The cast retains the detail of various inscriptions including those of Amenhotep III and Tutankhamen illustrating its reuse by various rulers.
