Specialist note

Pietra paesina panels are mined from the Arno region of Italy. Its literal translation, "landscape stone" describes the natural figured graining which can be cut in such a way so as to exploit these patterns often depicting abstract landscapes. Small plaques of pietra paesina were popular for the decoration of cabinets and tables.
