A VICTORIAN BRONZE GROUP ENTITLED 'SELIM AND TOM'

Boehm is best known for his portrait busts and his association with the Victorian Royal Family. The present model, an unusual subject for Boehm, was commissioned by Albert Edward, Prince of Wales. A terracotta version was exhibited under the title Selim, an Abyssinian, with Tom, a favourite poodle, in 1870 at the Royal Academy. Boehm later produced a bust of Selim which probably relates to the group, he exhibited it in terracotta at the London International Exhibition of 1871.
