Of rectangular shape, carved with a smooth circular plate for grinding ink and crescent-shaped reservoir, representing the sun and moon, surrounded by a deeply carved border of other symbols of the Ten Signs of Long Life, including auspicious fungus, bamboo, pines, rocks, deer, birds and clouds, the stone greyish-black with green patches from the natural coloration of the material
