Specialist note

Müller visited North Wales in 1833 and again in 1841 and 1843. Writing to a friend in 1842, Müller called the area 'our English Switzerland'. (F. Greenacre and S. Stoddard, W.J. Müller 1812-1845, ex. cat., Bristol Museums and Art Gallery 1991, p. 83).
