AN ELABORATELY CARVED TURNED GOBLET, REPUTEDLY MADE FROM THE WOOD OF SHAKESPEARE'S MULBERRY TREE. After the destruction of Shakespeare's family home by its owner the Rev. Francis Gastrell in 1759, it became a natural hunting ground for souvenirs. In the following century, John Marshall (d. 1887), a carver and antiquarian in Stratford-on-Avon, used wood from the property, including beams from the barn and the remnants of a mulberry tree said to have been planted by Shakespeare, to create carved artefacts for his shop. ONE OF THE GRANDEST EXAMPLES OF MARSHALL'S COMMEMORATIVE WORK.
