[CRUIKSHANK, George (1792-1878)]. Archive of approximately 302 letters addressed to Cruikshank (a few to his wife Eliza or other recipients), 1826-1887, by a variety of correspondents, relating to his artistic work, including proposals for suites of engravings, acknowledgements of publications, etc, and his social circle (including an invitation to a dinner at which Dickens and Forster will be present in 1849), a considerable number relating to the cause of Temperance, especially meetings at which Cruikshank was to speak and his role as lieutenant-colonel and commanding officer of a temperance corps in the militia, and on other subjects; together with 4 draft letters by Cruikshank (most on the versos of received letters), occasional small sketches on margins or loose sheets.
