The grey and white Sainte Anne marble top above a frieze drawer and fall enclosing a birch, amaranth and mahogany interior with small drawers, pigeon holes and a dark baize writing surface, the cupboard below enclosing a compartment with hinged cover, stamped to rear left corner below the marble JACOB. D./R. MESLEE, escutcheon mounts probably replaced
57 in. (145 cm.) high; 38½ in. (98 cm.) wide; 18¾ in. (47.5 cm.) deep

Specialist note

Georges (1739-1814) and his middle son, François-Honoré-Georges Jacob, dit Jacob-Desmalter (1770-1841), the leading ébénistes of the Empire period, used this stamp between 1803-1813. The stamp is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p.268.
