Art Market, Rome, by 1927, where purchased by Giuseppe Rossetto di Alessandro, by whom brought to the United States in 1929, and thence by descent.

Specialist note

The present composition relates to Albani's altarpiece for the Cagnoli Chapel in Santa Maria di Galliera, Bologna (1627-1632). The artist appears to have made preparatory studies for the putti on the reverse of the backing board (not illustrated).
