Specialist note
This form of 'Dumb waiter' was illustated in Gillows Estimate Sketch Book dated 14 February 1803, for Le Gendre Pierce Starkie Esq, the associated text showing the cost as £7.3s.7d. The form was evidently popular since the same model 'with two tops' appears again in 1819. An almost identical pair formerly in the collection of the Hon. Violet Vivian, M.B.E, was sold Christie's, New York, Property from the Collection of Neil and Sharon Phillips, 11 October 2007, lot 45, ($23.750 including premium).
