18K, comprising a coffee pot, cream jug and sugar bowl; each ovoid, on circular base, the lower body fluted, with stiff leaf and bead-and-reel border, the coffee pot with domed cover and carved ivory finial, each marked under base with monogram, two bases engraved 9-16-11, one engraved 8.28.1917, each marked under base X107-9 and 18K

Specialist note

This model of black coffee service was first produced in March 1900 for the Paris Exposition. According to Gorham scholar, Sam Hough, this three-piece service was reproduced in November 1912 at a cost of approximately $870. The service was subsequently divided between two sisters and engraved with their marriage dates, before being reunited in the 1960s.
