KAZUMASA YAMASHITA (b.1937)
Lot 141 CRAFTING POSTMODERNISM:
Precious metalwork by Alessi and Cleto Munari

The 1980s inaugurated a new chapter in product design, as independent craft-based manufacturers, primarily Italian, sought to encourage a new generation of Postmodernist taste-makers to apply their aesthetic rigour to luxury domestic or personal products. Pioneered by companies such as Alessi and Cleto Munari, who offered stylistic liberty and precision manufacture to internationally-renowned designers and architects, the personality and marketing of the designed object was to be changed forever.
