Specialist note
In 1892, Toulouse-Lautrec was commissioned to decorate the living room of the Parisian brothel called 'La Maison de la rue d'Amboise.' For this project, the artist painted a series of panels and medallions which would line the walls of the salon. In total there were 18 medallions produced; all, including the present lot, were portraits of the brothel's prostitutes.
