Introduced into the market at the Basel Fair in 1956, the Day-Date has ever since been one of the Rolex's flagship models and enjoys continuous popularity. Symbol of luxury and prestige, the model was particularly appreciated by the houses Middle Eastern clientele, resulting in watches featuring the emblem of the relevant state, often presented by the rulers as gifts or token of esteem.

The present reference 1804 is doubtlessly one of the most impressive representatives of this legendary model, distinguished by the lavishly diamond-set platinum case and bracelet. Part of a very small series of such highly jewelled watches made in the 1970s, this extravagant timepiece is furthermore preserved in excellent overall condition.

For another exclusive variant of Rolex Day-Date with similar bracelet, also often referred to by collectors as "Octopussy", see lot 139 in this sale.
