Specialist note

The present desk timepiece is a very attractive representative of an Art Deco clock featuring Chinese style elements, such as the Fu Dog. Gübelin produced only few examples of desk clocks for the Chinese market, distinguished by their high quality characteristic for the renowned firm and always much sought after by connoisseurs.

In Ancient China, statues of mythical creatures known as Fu Dogs were placed outside homes, palaces, and businesses to ward off evil spirits and keep thieves at bay.
