Specialist note

The present reference 6036 is one of the most appealing examples of this celebrated chronograph to appear in public in recent years. Preserved in very appealing, original overall condition, the most eye-catching feature is the beautifully aged, silvered dial, characterized by the pyramid-shaped and Arabic 12 numerals, recessed within the dial plate, symbol of recognition for the first series of this model. In its nearly 60 years of existence it has never been subject to any cosmetical enhancement, impressively demonstrated by the charismatic beige patina. The case condition is in accordance with the untouched dial, displaying full proportions without any signs of careless polishing. Last but not least the unusual retailer's signature Joyeria Riviera, Rolex's agent in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, adds to the desirability of this "Dato Compax".

Reference 6036
Reference 6036, the third generation of the celebrated "Dato Compax" Oyster triple calendar chronograph model ever presented by Geneva's "crowned" watch manufacturer, was available with various dial layouts, cased mainly in yellow gold and in stainless steel. Various examples of reference 6036 are described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 380 - 401, a similar watch to the present lot on pp. 380 & 381.
