J. Rossel & Fils were the successors of the long-established watch manufacturer J. F. Bautte & Cie., founded in Geneva in 1790. Between 1860 and 1883, the firm signed "Successeurs to J.F. Bautte Genève". Manufacturers of fine watches and jewellery, J. Rossel & Fils were awarded First Class medals at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851 and in Paris in 1855.
