A SET OF ANTIQUE DIAMOND BROOCHES AND PAIR OF EARRINGS
Comprising twelve diamond-set variously-shaped graduated leaf brooches and a pair of similar ear clips (clip fitting added later), mounted in silver and gold, 1850-1875, 4.9 to 2.9 cm
Probably by Chaumet (13)

Formerly the Property of a European Royal family

Auction in St Moritz, 21-22 February 1996, lot 572

Specialist note

This set of leaf brooches was probably mounted originally as a tiara or a necklace. It is very much in the same spirit as the famous Parure de feuilles de groseillier, ordered by the Empress Eugenie to French jeweller Bapst in 1855 and composed of a garland necklace, a tour de corsage and a devant de corsage.

It is also very similar to the leaf brooches worn on a choker by Maria Cristina Queen of Spain on one of her official portrait, illustrated page 292 in Las joyas de las reinas de Espana, F. Rayon and J. L. Sampedro, Planeta, Barcelona.
