Specialist note
Legendary Neapolitan gallerist Lucio Amelio opened his gallery in 1965 on the Piazza dei Martiri, where he exhibited the work of up-and-coming American and European artists, including Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Gilbert & George and Gerhard Richter, among others. Along with few other art dealers, he helped define the avant-garde scene of the 1960s and '70s in Naples and contributed greatly to the international successes of American artists Donald Baechler, Keith Haring and George Condo.
