Each of shield shape, the waisted neck gilt with a musical trophy and flanked by maiden bust handles suspending berried vine on pilaster terminals, finely painted in the manner of Boucher with shepherds courting peasant maidens, the reverse with a bouquet of fruit and flowers, on a conforming socle and square base, mounted as lamps

Specialist note

The signature on the present pair is likely that of Abel François Philippe Schilt fils. Schilt is recorded as a painter at Sèvres (1847-1880) specializing in scenes after Watteau. He seems to have continued this course after leaving the factory.
