The bowl tapering circular with mask-form handles; the plates circular; all decorated with a gilt cypher of Alexander II beneath the Imperial crown, marked under bases with underglaze blue and green factory marks

Specialist note

The Farm Palace Service was commissioned by Grand Duke Alexander Nikolaevich, the future Emperor Alexander II, for the Palace in the Alexandria Park, Peterhof. Additions were made after the Grand Duke succeeded to the throne as Alexander II in 1855.
