Cefntilla Court, the house purchased in 1856 by the Raglan Memorial Committee, was enlarged under the direction of Thomas Henry Wyatt (1807-1880; elder brother to Sir Matthew Digby Wyatt). By family tradition, these chairs were designed by Matthew Digby Wyatt. Sir Matthew Digby Wyatt was originally the architect for the house but did not apparently execute the designs, and the plans are signed by Thomas Henry Wyatt. A member of the Wyatt family acted as bidder for the house for Crawshay Bailey on behalf of the committee. Both brothers were active in Wales and their uncle was agent to the Beauforts.
