QIANLONG PERIOD, CIRCA 1790 AND CIRCA 1785
The oval dish enamelled in the famille rose palette with the arms of Roche of Trabulcan, surrounded by two diaper-bands in underglaze blue; the blue and white plate decorated with the arms of Caulfeild, Earl of Charlemont, with the chain of the Order of St. Patrick encircling the rim

Specialist note

James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont (1728-1799), was the first President and a founding member of the Royal Irish Academy. Charlemont was a patron of the architect Sir William Chambers, and commissioned the famous medal cabinet for Charlemont House in Dublin, which is now in the Courtauld Institute, Somerset House.
