James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont (1728-1799), was the first President and a founding member of the Royal Irish Academy. Charlemont was a patron of the architect Sir William Chambers, and commissioned the famous medal cabinet for Charlemont House in Dublin, which is now in the Courtauld Institute, Somerset House.
