Specialist note
Rockford Watch Company operated from 1873 to 1915. The company was founded by P.H. Wheeler and C. W. Parker, former employees of Cornell Watch Company who purchased equipment from the Cornell Watch Company to get their operation off the ground. Rockford's highest grades of watches were engraved on the plate with "Ruby" or "Ruby Jewels" and later shortened to just the letter "R" next to the jewel count. The company made Railroad-grade watches, signed "RG" and had contractes with three different railroads.
The present example is unusual with the flying dragon motif which is rarely seen in American horology.
