Specialist note

This painting belonged to collector Jiang Shaoyan. A native of Guangdong, Jiang was passionate about arts and culture, in particular about Guangdong artists, and began collecting in his early days of business. Later he immigrated to North America and occasionally sold some of the paintings in his possession.

An auspicious subject, apples are a homophone for stability, conveying to the receiver wishes for peace and stability.
