Jean Peské (1870-1949)

Jean Peské was born in Odessa and received his initial artistic education at the Kiev School of Painting before studying further in Odessa and Warsaw. In 1891 Peské emigrated to France. In Paris he spent two months at the Académie Julien where he met Signac, Srusier and The Nabis. From 1895, he began to exhibit regularly with the Salon des Indépendants. Powerfully influenced by Monet, from the 1900s onwards he found his place among the Post Impressionists and exhibited with the most renowned Parisian galleries including Durand Ruel, Bernheim and Devambez.
