SIGNED HIZEN KUNI JUNIN YOSHIHIRO, EDO PERIOD (17TH CENTURY)
Sugata: [configuration]: robust broad honzukuri, shallow curve, chu-gissaki
Kitae: [forging pattern]: itame nagare with ji-nie and chikei
Hamon [tempering pattern]: dense choji with long ashi, sunagashi, of nie
Boshi [tip]: midare-komi and komaru with hakikake tendency
Nakago [tang]: suriage and machi-okuri, original file marks osujikai and the machi-okuri portion kiri on the tachi-omote, and kiri on the ura, two mekugi-ana, slightly rounded kirijiri
Habaki [collar]: single gold-clad copper
Nagasa [length of blade]: 71.5cm.
Koshirae [mounting]: toppei-goshirae, the saya red and brown striations in simulation of tree bark, silver kodogu includes kojiri with dragonfly in high relief, koiguchi, kogai, fuchi-kashira carved with leafy fronds on ishimeji ground, menuki of gilt dragons, mokko tsuba with silver cladding on a copper base engraved with dragon among clouds

Specialist note

Accompanied by a certificate of registration as a Hozon Token [Sword worthy of preservation] no. 371007 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword] on 20th June 2005

This sword is by the first generation Ise daijo Yoshihiro, originally Kichizaemon, who was a pupil of Tadayoshi I. The second generation, the son of Yoshihiro, first signed his work with Ise Goro Minamoto Yoshisada, later Yoshihiro, active around the Tenna era (1681 -84).
