Note du spécialiste

The vigorous brushwork and use of lighter pastel colours indicate that this work stylistically belongs to a later period of the artist's career. It is comparable to The Spring (early 1850s, private collection, Switzerland) and can be related to a number of profile figures in Florinda (1852, Royal Collection).

We would like to thank Eugene von Barilo von Reisberg for confirming the authenticity of the present lot and his assistance in providing the catalogue entry.
