Specialist note
The present watch is a fine example of a so-called "Puritan" watch, referring to the simplicity of its appearance, supposedly in character with the Puritan austerity.
The dial is easy to read and the double-ended hour hand allows it to be moved with the fingers easily and without damages.
Preserved in very good, original overall condition, the rarity of the present watch is enhanced by the unusual use of a gold case as opposed to the more commonly found silver and the presence of the outer protective case.
Johannes Chatfeild or John Chatfield was active in London in the last quarter of the 17th century.
