Specialist note
Based on a prototype exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art's "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" competition in 1940, the Model No. 670 was the Eameses' most constructionally complex chair and their first design for the luxury end of the market (retailing at $634 in 1957). Originally conceived as a birthday gift for the film director Billy Wilder, the Lounge is unashamedly masculine, exuding a sense of executive power and comfort through its generous proportions and use of high-quality materials.
