EARLY 18TH CENTURY
The cavetto moulded cornice above brass hinged doors enclosing ten drawers, the lower section with secretaire drawer with fitted interior above three long drawers, inventory label to the reverse printed 'P.M.MARGON-WILSON' and ink inscribed '1900 (30)', on later bun feet
76¼ in. (194 cm.) high; 43¼ in. (110 cm.) wide; 21¾ in. (55.5 cm.) deep

Specialist note

This form of secretaire-cabinet was introduced in the early 18th century and became particularly popular in the early Georgian period. Two documented comparable forms by the cabinet maker John Coxed (fl. 1703-18) are known and one similar example with figured walnut veneers and an arrangement of cabinet drawers is illustrated and discussed by Adam Bowett,English Furniture 1660-1714, Woodbridge 2002, pp. 226, pl.7:59.
