Noh Mask of Obeshimi
Edo period (17th-18th century)
Polychrome pigments and gesso over wood, eyes of gilt-metal; inscribed Obeshimi in gold pigment on reverse
8¼in. (21cm.) long

Note du spécialiste

Obeshimi swells with bluff and bluster, his brows furrowed, nostrils flared, lips tightly pursed and jaw clenched. At first glance frightening, the features create an image of bravado appropriate for a tengu demon.
