Of large scale, the reeded uprights with gadrooned vase finials, the base with dummy drawers and a hinged top enclosing six lidded compartments with kingwood handles, a pin cushion and a central compartment with six narrow divisions, possibly for combs, the interior stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER, the mirror plate original
29½ in. (75 cm.) high; 28¼ in. (72 cm.) wide; 13 in. (33 cm.) deep

Specialist note

Gillows of Lancaster illustrate an identical "Mahogany glass with a box fit up for dressing for plate 22 x 18" in their Estimate Sketch Books, folio 3001, dated 18th December 1818. This innovative design must have been produced in very small quantities; nothing like it appears elsewhere in the Sketch Books.
