Specialist note

John Taylor and Son were appointed 'Cabinet-makers and Upholsterers in Ordinary to Her Majesty the Queen' at Edinburgh in 1852. They were favourably mentioned at the International Exhibition of 1862, ranking alongside Whytock and Co. as Edinburgh's leading cabinet-makers.
