The scene contained within an elaborately carved frame; the letters 'VE' engraved to the right of Venus' arm; the reverse with paper label inscribed '1725'; wear to the gilding; chips, cracks and minor losses
26½ in. (67.4 cm.) high

Specialist note

The present relief almost certainly originally formed the central motif of the decoration for a ship's poop deck. Comparable examples from the workshop of Pierre Puget are illustrated in Philippe Auquier, Puget - Decorateur naval et Mariniste, Paris, 1907, nos. 125-130.
