Specialist note
A pupil of Joseph-Marie Vien (1716-1809) and François Boucher (1703-1770), Ménageot won the Prix de Rome and a stay at the French Academy in Rome from 1769 to 1774. The Académie Royale in Paris approved Ménageot as a history painter in 1777 and he went on to be given a good reception for his works at the Salon.
